Canal la Amsterdam is a 1967 by Micaela Eleutheriade, depicting Canal, held at National Museum of Art of Romania.
This painting shows a busy city street with a sloped hill in the middle. Buildings line both sides—one red and bright, others muted and warm. A horse-drawn carriage is climbing the hill, its wheels kicking up dust. Trees with bare branches lean over the street, and people walk along the sidewalks. The brushstrokes are loose and quick, almost like a sketch. The colors feel warm but not polished, giving it a rough, lively look. Look up Eleutheriade, Micaela to see more of her work.
Micaela Eleutheriade (1900–1982) was a noted Romanian painter and engraver. She was a descendant, through her mother, of the painter Gheorghe Tattarescu, the pioneer of neoclassicism in Romania.
