CANAL LA ANSKRETUN is a 1941 by Micaela Eleutheriade, depicting Tree, held at National Museum of Art of Romania.
This painting shows a city street with a sloped hill in the middle. Buildings line both sides, some with bright red roofs, while others are darker. A few people and horses are scattered around, and a tree with bare branches stands near the right edge. The brushstrokes are loose, almost sketchy, giving the scene a quick, rough feel. The colors are muted except for the red roofs, which pop against the rest. Look up impasto next to see how thick paint can create texture like this.
Micaela Eleutheriade (1900–1982) was a noted Romanian painter and engraver. She was a descendant, through her mother, of the painter Gheorghe Tattarescu, the pioneer of neoclassicism in Romania.
