This image shows a black-and-white scene with lots of tiny lines and shading. A lone rider on horseback sits in the middle distance, while three small figures stand nearby in a wooded area. Trees fill the background, and a dark, rocky hill rises behind them. The artist used a technique that builds up texture with repeated lines, making the scene look almost three-dimensional. This was a common way to create depth in prints. Check out etching to see how artists like this made detailed prints using acid and metal plates.
