About this work

This drawing shows an angel mid-flight, arms outstretched like wings, with flowing hair and loose drapery. The figure hovers against a blank background, the lines of the body and fabric sketched lightly in black chalk. The paper has a faint blue tint, and the whole sheet is marked with a grid—probably to help transfer the design elsewhere. The angel’s pose looks dynamic, almost like they’re gliding. The artist used quick, confident strokes to suggest movement, leaving some areas sketchy while others are more defined. Next, check out the Baroque movement to see how artists used drama and motion in their work.
