House of the Smith is a 1864 by Francis Seymour Haden, a Impressionism work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This sketch shows a quiet street scene with a house on the left, a tree, and a small bridge over a pond. A lone figure sits on a bench near the water, while another person walks along the path. The lines are loose and quick, with lots of shading to show light and shadow. The artist used a technique called *cross-hatching*—layered lines to create depth. This was common in etchings and sketches from the 1800s. Look up Francis Seymour Haden to see more of his work.
