A Chinese figure sweeping, and two figures by a basket is a 19 by George Chinnery, a Romanticism work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This drawing shows a man sweeping with his back to us, plus a quick sketch of a vendor and a customer near a basket. George Chinnery made it in 1830 during the Romantic era. It’s not flashy—just a loose, daily scene. The artist captured ordinary moments, not grand events. That makes it feel real and close. Look up the Victoria and Albert Museum.
The drawing depicts a man sweeping with his back turned, accompanied by a sketch of a vendor standing beside a basket with a crouching customer. Part of an album containing 406 drawings made in Macau, Guangzhou, and Bengal, it was bequeathed in 1928 by James Orange as part of a collection of 93 works by George Chinnery.
