This drawing is a family portrait by George Chinnery. It’s a study for a bigger work, not the finished piece. The scene shows a Western man standing behind a sofa where a woman holds a small child. Chinnery worked in the Romantic style, which meant soft lighting and emotional moments. The drawing was made between 1825 and 1852, a busy time for portrait artists.
