A pig, and a trio of figures with a basket is a 19 by George Chinnery, a Romanticism work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This drawing shows a pig on one side and three Chinese figures on the other. They’re bent over a shallow basket on the ground. The artist used a soft pencil to keep things loose and natural. The figures don’t seem to be in a hurry. Their quiet pose feels like a snapshot from everyday life. Cross-hatching helped Chinnery capture light and shadow with just a few lines.
The drawing consists of two scenes: one depicts a pig, while the other shows three Chinese figures examining a shallow basket on the ground. Part of an album with 179 sheets of drawings made in Bengal and Macau, it was bequeathed in 1928 by James Orange as part of a collection of 93 works by George Chinnery.
