An Indian bullock and cart is a 6 by George Chinnery, a Romanticism work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
George Chinnery sketched this drawing in 1816. A two-wheeled cart and a bullock drinking from a bowl fill the sheet. Only the bullock’s hind legs show more detail. Chinnery worked in Macau at the time, far from his usual British subjects. He used Romanticism’s free, quick lines to capture everyday life. Next time you’re in London, look up the Victoria and Albert Museum.
The drawing depicts an Indian bullock and cart, including studies of a two-wheeled cart, a bullock drinking from a bowl, and the hind legs of a bullock. It is part of a volume containing 179 sheets of drawings made in Bengal and Macau. The work was bequeathed in 1928 by James Orange as part of an album of 93 drawings by George Chinnery.
