This drawing shows the gardens of a big house in Macao. It’s where Camões, a famous Portuguese poet, once worked. The artist caught a quiet view of paths and trees. The house, called Casa Macao, once rented space to the East India Company. A small cave-like pavilion sits above the trees. It marks the spot where Camões wrote part of his long poem “Os Lusíadas.” If you like this scene, look up George Chinnery.
