About this work

This etching shows a crumbling stone building with three big arches. The walls are rough and weathered, and vines grow on top. In the foreground, two men walk, while others sit or kneel near a small stream. The text at the bottom calls it the "Tempio della Tosse," a ruined temple near Tivoli. The artist drew every crack and shadow carefully to show how old it looks. If you like this style, check out Giovanni Battista Piranesi.
