The George Inn Yard, Dorchester. is a 1900 by Haite, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This sketch shows a narrow alley between old stone buildings. The walls are rough and uneven, with some bricks poking out. At the far end, a larger stone building with a tower looms over the scene. Two people sit on a bench in the middle, talking or resting. The ground is uneven, with patches of dirt and a few scattered leaves. The artist used quick, sketchy lines to capture the texture of the walls and roof tiles. The shading is done with tiny strokes, giving the drawing a grainy look. Look up cross-hatching to see how this technique works.
George Charles Haité (8 June 1855 – 31 March 1924) was an English designer, painter, illustrator and writer.
