Chateau St. Maur is a 1725 by Jacques Rigaud, a Baroque work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This print shows a grand stone building with tall, symmetrical wings and a central section. In front, a neatly trimmed garden has winding paths, hedges, and small groups of people walking or standing. Trees line the edges, and the sky above is lightly sketched with clouds. The whole scene looks calm and orderly, like a snapshot of a wealthy estate. The text at the bottom names the place as *Château Royal de Saint-Maur*, owned by the Prince de Condé. This kind of detailed, large-scale view was often made to show off important buildings to distant viewers. Want to know more? Look up Baroque.
