The Infant Christ and Saint John Playing with the Lamb is a 1634 ink by Christoffel Jegher, a Baroque work, depicting Putti, held at National Gallery of Art.
This woodcut shows two small boys kneeling on grass, playing with a lamb. The older boy holds a scroll. The lamb stands between them, calm and gentle. Jegher carved this in the 1630s. Woodcuts were made by carving a block, inking it, then pressing paper on top. Each print is the same image but feels unique. Look for other woodcuts by Jegher, Christoffel.
Christoffel Jegher (1596–1652) was a Flemish artist, born in Antwerp.
