Escorial, Spain is a 1681 ink by Melchior Küsel, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This black-and-white drawing shows a grand, busy courtyard with tall buildings on all sides. People walk, talk, and ride horses across the open space. The architecture has lots of columns, arches, and statues on the rooftops. A large staircase leads up to a central doorway, and the sky above is filled with clouds. The text at the bottom calls it "Escorial," which is a real place in Spain. The artist used a technique that lets them create fine details with lines.
