Verhexte Tiere (Bewitched Animals) is a 1922 graphite by Paul Klee, held at National Gallery of Art.
This sketch shows four strange, twisted animals. One looks like a horse with a giant, floppy ear. Another is a crawling creature with a hat and round eyes. The others are simple shapes with tiny legs. The lines are light and wobbly, like doodles. The drawing feels playful but also a little off-kilter. The animals don’t look real—they’re more like silly inventions. Check out Klee, Paul to see more of his odd, dreamlike drawings.
Paul Klee (German: ; 18 December 1879 – 29 June 1940) was a Swiss-born German artist.
