A River Bank with Mountains Beyond is a 1786 by Franz Innocenz Josef Kobell, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This sketch shows a quiet riverbank with tall grass and a few scattered trees. Behind them, a steep mountain rises, its rocky layers drawn in quick, rough strokes. The water at the bottom is calm, with just a hint of ripples. The artist used only brown ink and water to shade the scene, giving it a soft, faded look.
