Rosvoja luolan suulla (Sotilaita tunnelissa) is a work by Aleksander Lauréus, held at Helsinki City Museum.
This dark scene shows a group of soldiers inside a rocky cave. One man in the front holds a glowing lantern, lighting up his face and the rough walls around him. The others sit or stand nearby, some resting their weapons against the rocks. The warm glow of the lantern makes the cave feel almost cozy, even though the rest of the space is shadowy. The artist used careful shading to show the texture of the rocks and the soldiers’ clothes. Next, look up *cross-hatching* to see how artists create depth with lines.
Aleksander Lauréus (1783–1823) was a Finnish artist, born in Turku.
