Bend in the River (Un coin de riviere) is a 1874 ink by Alphonse Legros, a Romanticism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This sketch shows a quiet river scene with a bend in the water. On the left, a tall tree stands with its branches reaching out over the riverbank. In the distance, another tree grows on the opposite shore, its leaves dense and dark. The water is calm, with a small boat floating near the center. The artist used ink and wash to create soft shadows and textures, making the trees look almost three-dimensional. The paper has a slightly yellowed, aged look, like an old sketchbook page.
