Egypt and Nubia, Volume III: The Nileometer. Island of Rhoda is a 1849 by Louis Haghe, a Romanticism work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This sketch shows an old stone building with a tall cross on top. In front, a small group of people stands near a shallow pool of water. One person is bent over, maybe filling a container, while others sit or stand around. The walls have arched doorways, and the whole scene looks worn but still standing strong. The title says this is a *Nileometer*—a tool used to measure the Nile River’s height. It was important for tracking floods and farming seasons in Egypt. Want to see more?
