The Passion: The Capture of Jesus is a 1521 by Lucas van Leyden, a Renaissance work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This small woodcut shows a chaotic scene at night. Torches flare. A mob grabs Jesus by the arm. Peter swings a knife, cutting off a soldier’s ear. Lucas van Leyden used fine lines to pack in drama. He loved tiny details—look at the folds in clothes, the way light flickers on armor. Check out his other prints at the Cleveland Museum of Art.
