Winter is a 1649 ink by Conrad Meyer, a Baroque work, depicting Ice Skating, held at National Gallery of Art.
Conrad Meyer’s *Winter* shows a bare tree with snow on its branches against a dark sky. The bare branches look fragile, like lace. Fine lines cover the paper—tiny ridges from the etching tool. This is an etching. The artist carved the image onto a metal plate, inked it, then pressed the paper to make the print. Etchings let artists share small, detailed scenes. Conrad Meyer (1618 Zürich – 1689 Zürich) was a painter, engraver, and medallist of Zürich.
