This painting shows a split scene: the top half is a flat, light brown color, like a washed-out sky. The bottom half is a rough, dark landscape with tangled brushstrokes—trees, water, and what looks like a riverbank or field. The colors are mostly muted grays and browns, with a few patches of white and black. The thick, textured paint in the lower half makes the scene feel almost messy, like you could reach in and touch the brushstrokes. It’s as if the artist didn’t smooth things out.
