Seated Peasant with Jug is a 1763 ink by Jacobus Buys, a Romanticism work, depicting Drinking, held at National Gallery of Art.
A man in a brown jacket sits with a jug in his lap. His face is lined, his hands rough. The background is plain, just a few lines to show space. This isn’t a fancy portrait. It’s a study of everyday life. The artist used six metal plates to carve the image, then printed it in black ink. The colors came later, added by hand. Look up etching next—Cornelis Ploos van Amstel made this one.
