Drawing of a plaster cast of a peach and spray of leaves is a 14 by Beatrix Potter, a Impressionism work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This is a student drawing by Beatrix Potter. She was 12 when she made it, copying a plaster peach and leaf to practice technique. Potter studied art formally at the National Art Training School in London. The school kept girls like her busy with “genteel” skills, even though she later called her education neglected. Look up the Victoria and Albert Museum to see where this early work lives.
The drawing is a shaded pencil work on paper depicting a plaster plaque of a peach accompanied by a spray of leaves, framed within a rectangular border with bevelled corners. A faint pencil sketch of stems appears above the central image. The piece was likely created as an exercise for the Second Grade Art Student Certificate at the National Art Training School, where the artist received an "Excellent" mark. It was later included in the Linder Collection, donated to the National Book League (now the Book Trust) in 1970.
