Lumiere (Light) is a 1893 ink by Odilon Redon, a Impressionism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This sketch shows a shadowy figure sitting in a window, hands clasped. The light behind them makes their face glow faintly, while the rest stays dark. Outside, a smaller shape stands in the street, also half-lit. The artist used soft lines and deep blacks to create mood over detail. The glow from the window suggests quiet, maybe loneliness or waiting. Look up lithography to see how this print was made.
Born Bertrand-Jean Redon on 20 April 1840 in Bordeaux, the artist adopted the name Odilon from his mother, Marie-Odile.
