Overview

A 1809 head-and-shoulders print portrays the writer Sophia Lee (1750–1824), engraved after an original portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence and issued by the London publishers Vernor, Hood, and Sharpe. The image belongs to the Harry Beard Collection and reflects Lee’s role as an author and playwright whose works included the 1780 three-act opera The Chapter of Accidents and the 1783 historical romance The Recess.
