Views of the Villa of Pratolino: Colossal Statue of the Apennines is a 1653 by Stefano Della Bella, a Baroque work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This print shows a giant rocky cliff with a waterfall pouring down its center. Below, a terraced garden has people walking, sitting, and boating on a pond. Tall trees line the right side, and a long bridge arches over the water. The scene looks busy but orderly, with people dressed in old-fashioned clothes. The waterfall is the main focus, with water cascading in thick, swirling lines. The artist used shading to make the rocks look solid and the water look smooth. Look up Baroque to see how this style used drama and movement in art.
Stefano della Bella (18 May 1610 – 12 July 1664) was an Italian draughtsman and printmaker known for etchings of a great variety of subjects, including military and court scenes, landscapes, and lively genre scenes.
