歌川広重画 雪中小松に錦雉|Golden Pheasant and Pine Shoots in Snow is a 1835 ink by Utagawa Hiroshige, a Romanticism work, depicting Pheasant, held at Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This print shows a bright pheasant perched on a snowy hillside. Its feathers glow red, blue, and green, while its tail fans out in long, curved streaks of orange and brown. Around it, dark pine branches stick up through the snow, and tiny white dots fill the sky. The artist used bold colors to make the bird stand out against the cold, quiet scene. This kind of print was meant to look simple but striking. Look up Utagawa Hiroshige next to see more of his work.
Utagawa Hiroshige (歌川 広重) or Andō Hiroshige (安藤 広重), born Andō Tokutarō (安藤 徳太郎; 1797 – 12 October 1858), was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist, considered the last great master of that tradition.
