Chunar Gur is a 1789 watercolor by William Daniell, a Patna School of Painting work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This painting shows a rocky cliff with a fortress on top, overlooking a harbor. In the water, there’s a large sailing ship and a smaller boat with a white sail. On the shore, a few people and camels stand near the water’s edge. The fortress looks old and strong, built into the cliffside. The artist used soft watercolors to show light and shadow, making the scene feel quiet and distant. Next, check out the Victoria and Albert Museum to see this painting in person.
A watercolour by William Daniell from 1789 shows Chunar Gur, a substantial fortress resembling a castle situated along the River Ganges, accompanied by an inscription bearing the title.
