The story of this work

Overview

A drawing by Thomas Walter Wilson from 1892 depicts Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence and Avondale, in military uniform and Garter robes, supporting Princess Victoria Mary of Teck in a wedding dress on his right arm. Both figures are shown in half-length portraits, facing slightly to the right. The heads and hands of Queen Mary have been drawn separately and added to the composition. The work was likely created to illustrate a weekly periodical commemorating the Duke of Clarence's planned marriage before his death in January 1892.
