Frederick Richard Window took a photo in the 1800s. It shows an actor or actress, probably in costume, meant for fans to collect. Albumen prints like this were made from glass negatives and pasted on stiff cards. Photography was brand-new then. Actors posed for “cartes de visite,” small visiting-card-size photos that people traded like baseball cards. Later came bigger “cabinet cards,” but these tiny photos ruled the 1860s. Look up the Victoria and Albert Museum.
