Changhua County Art Museum

The Changhua County Art Museum is a cultural institution in Changhua City, Changhua County, Taiwan. It serves as a major center for visitors to engage with art and learn about the region's cultural heritage. The museum plays an active role in the county's cultural life by regularly hosting exhibitions that feature both traditional and contemporary art, alongside various cultural events, lectures, and educational programs.

The museum officially opened on November 25, 2014. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Magistrate Cho Po-yuan and was attended by various artists from the county. Since its establishment, the institution has functioned as a venue for local artistic expression and a site for broader cultural exhibitions.

The museum's programming encompasses sculptural and digital artwork by local artists. It also hosts significant traveling exhibitions that bridge local culture with national treasures. For instance, the museum partnered with the National Palace Museum for the "National Palace Museum Treasures Tour Changhua" project, which presented a dialogue between the industrial and cultural landscape of Changhua and historical artifacts. This specific exhibition featured an artifact display section on the first floor and a new media art section on the third and fifth floors, the latter depicting the day-to-day lives of the ancients through technological innovations.

While functioning primarily as an exhibition venue rather than a permanent collection repository, the museum has hosted highly significant artifacts on loan. Most notably, it exhibited the Meat-shaped Stone, a designated national treasure from the National Palace Museum. Other major loaned works displayed at the museum include the Jade Duck, White Jade in the Shape of "Fair Litchi", Yellow Chalcedony Tri-Seal Set, and Jade Washer in the Shape of a Phoenix. Its new media art displays have also featured internationally awarded works, such as the "Besotted by Flower Vapors" calligraphy animation, "Into the Painting" multisensory interactive theater, "Stamps of Landscape" augmented reality interactive table, and the "Spirit of Autobiography" and "Autumn Colors on the Qiao and Hua Mountains" virtual reality experiences.

The museum is housed in an eight-story building that was constructed at a cost of NT$411 million. Its architectural design resembles an angled structure featuring steel branches shaped like bamboo groves and mullion windows. The facility utilizes its multiple floors to accommodate diverse exhibition formats, with specific galleries dedicated to artifacts, immersive displays, interactive devices, and new media art.

The museum is located in Changhua City and offers free admission to the public. Its operating hours are 9am to 5pm. It is situated near the foothills of Mount Baguashan. Regarding transportation, the museum is accessible within a walking distance southeast of Changhua Station of the Taiwan Railway.
