The designation "After Wang Zhenpeng" identifies a work made in the manner of, or copied from, the Chinese painter Wang Zhenpeng rather than by his own hand. Wang Zhenpeng was active in the early fourteenth century during the Yuan dynasty and was favored at the court of Emperor Renzong. He was celebrated as a master of jiehua, the ruled-line technique used for precise architectural subjects, and of baimiao, fine ink-outline drawing without color.
He is especially associated with detailed scenes of dragon-boat regattas. Because his careful style was widely admired, later artists produced numerous imitations and copies in his name.
