The Adoration of the Shepherds is a 1750 oil by Antonio González Velázquez, a Rococo painting work, held at Brooklyn Museum.
This painting shows a group of people gathered around a baby lying in a manger. The baby is surrounded by a woman in a blue robe, a man with a beard, and several other figures. In the background, there are rocks and a large archway with a figure of a woman and a child in the sky. The painting is done in warm colors, with lots of earth tones and soft lighting. The figures are all looking at the baby, and some of them are reaching out to touch him. The overall mood of the painting is peaceful and reverent. The painting is reminiscent of the work of artists who used chiaroscuro, a technique that uses strong contrasts between light and dark to create a sense of volume and depth.
Antonio González Velázquez (1723–1793) was an artist, born in Madrid.
