Untitled is a 1945 paint by K.H. Ara, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This untitled painting from 1945 shows a busy outdoor fish market. Four women sell fish from baskets on mats, while a couple of men buy them. A white cat lurks nearby, watching it all. The artist, Ara K.H., was part of the Progressive Artists’ Group in India. They worked together in the 1940s to make new art with shared ideas. This painting hangs at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Look up the Victoria and Albert Museum next.
A watercolour painting on paper by K. H. Ara from 1945 depicts an open-air fish market scene in vibrant reds, yellows and blues. Four women, some squatting on mats or seated on stools, display fish in baskets as two men purchase from them, while a small white cat watches from the foreground. The work reflects the artist’s involvement with the Progressive Artists’ Group, which rejected Bengal School nationalism in favour of international avant-garde styles such as Surrealism and Expressionism.
