This image shows a woman sitting and holding a parasol open over her shoulder. She’s wearing a loose dress with a high neckline and a head covering. Behind her, there’s a tree with lots of leaves and a curved branch. The whole scene is drawn in black lines with shading to show light and shadow. The artist used a mix of fine lines and cross-hatching to create texture, especially in her clothing and the tree. This kind of detailed linework was common in prints from this time. Next, check out how etching works to see how artists like this made their marks.
