Guatsetto and Mestolino is a 1622 ink by Jacques Callot, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This sketch shows two big, odd-looking figures with giant feathered hats and long robes. They’re standing in a crowd of smaller people who seem to be dancing or fighting. The background has a few buildings and some trees, but the figures take up most of the space. The names *Guatsetto* and *Mestolino* are written below them—maybe these are the figures’ names. The artist used a sharp, scratchy style to draw everything. Want to see more? Check out etching to learn how this kind of drawing was made.
Jacques Callot was a baroque printmaker and draftsman from the Duchy of Lorraine.
