This image shows a busy battle scene with soldiers, horses, and ships. A river cuts through the middle, and the far side has a walled town under attack. Smoke rises near the buildings, and cannons fire from both sides. In the foreground, a fallen soldier lies on the ground while others fight or ride past. Notice the tiny, precise lines that make up every detail—even the soldiers’ armor and the folds of their clothes. The artist packed a lot of action into a small space, using numbers to mark different troop positions. Look up etching to see how artists like this one carved images into metal plates.
