The Grave of little Nell is a watercolour by George Cattermole. It's based on a passage from Charles Dickens's novel The Old Curiosity Shop. The novel was first published in 1841 and tells the story of Nell and her grandfather. Nell's death in the story had a big impact on Dickens's readers. A watercolour by George Cattermole from 1867 depicts the burial site of Nell, the central character from Charles Dickens’s 1841 novel *The Old Curiosity Shop*, showing her final resting place in a small village after her death from exhaustion. The work, which once belonged to Dickens himself, was later acquired by his biographer John Forster and is now held by the Victoria and Albert Museum.
