About this work

This painting shows a busy outdoor scene with people dressed in fancy robes and hats. Some are standing, others are sitting on a bench or near a small table. Trees with bare branches and a few flowers are scattered around, and the sky has fluffy clouds. One person is holding a fan, another is playing a stringed instrument, and a few seem to be talking or watching something happen. The people look like they’re part of a gathering, maybe enjoying a quiet moment together. The way the artist used ink to create shadows and textures on the clothes and trees gives the scene depth. Check out cross-hatching to see how artists build shading like this.
