About this work

This is a pencil portrait by Edward Clifford from 1880. It shows Clement Francis Wedgwood, part of the Wedgwood family. The drawing uses old-style lettering, just like Hans Holbein’s famous Tudor sketches. Clifford’s work copies Holbein’s style and ties it to this family. Three similar drawings exist in the V&A’s Wedgwood Collection. Check out the Victoria and Albert Museum next.
