Shepherds and Shepherdesses is a 1789 by Conrad Martin Metz, a Romanticism work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This sketch shows four people in a grassy landscape. Two women stand on the left, one with her back turned. Two others sit on the right, one holding a small animal. The background has trees and bushes, all drawn in soft brown lines. Notice how the artist used light shading to make the figures look three-dimensional, even though it’s just a drawing. Look up *chiaroscuro* next to see how this technique works.
Conrad Martin Metz (1749–1827) was a German artist, born in Bonn.
