The Stag Hunt is a 1512 ink by Lucas Cranach the Elder, a Renaissance work, depicting Hunting, held at National Gallery of Art.
Lucas Cranach the Elder carved this wild scene into wood. Hunters in fancy dress chase a stag through a dark forest. The trees look stiff and patterned, not real. The hunters’ clothes tell us this is from the 1500s. They wear puffy sleeves and tights—fashion then. The stag seems calm, almost sleepy, while men rush around it. Check out Cranach the Elder, Lucas next time you see his name.
Lucas Cranach the Elder was a German Renaissance painter and printmaker in woodcut and engraving.
