Peisaj cu copaci și cascadă mică is a 1642 unspecified by Jacques d'Arthois, a Baroque work, held at Brukenthal National Museum.
This painting shows a quiet forest scene with a winding dirt path. On the left, a man in a bright red coat walks alone, carrying something over his shoulder. To the right, a small group of people stands near a rocky outcrop, with a dog at their feet. The trees are thick and green, while the sky above is soft and cloudy, letting in gentle light. The artist paid close attention to how sunlight filters through the leaves, making some spots brighter than others. This effect is called *chiaroscuro*—a technique that uses strong light and shadow to give depth. If you like this play of light and shadow, look up chiaroscuro to see more examples.
Jacques d'Arthois (12 October 1613 (baptised) – May 1686) was a Flemish painter and tapestry designer who specialized in wooded landscapes with figures.
