Tournament Executed in Florence for the Marriage of Grand Duke Ferdinand I is a 1637 ink by Stefano Della Bella, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This print shows a big, busy scene with lots of people on horseback. There’s a stage in the middle with actors and a crowd watching. On the sides, small boxes have tiny drawings of people dancing. At the top, a fancy building sits above a crowd of riders. The text at the bottom says this was for a wedding in Florence. The artist packed in lots of action—horses, costumes, and crowds—to make it feel alive. Want to see more like this? Check out etching to learn how artists like this made prints.
