Pavilion Near a Mosque (recto) Sketch for Pavilion Near a Mosque (verso) is a 1804 by Félix Ziem, a Romanticism work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This sketch shows a small building with a curved roof and arched windows, sitting near a dome-shaped structure in the background. Trees line the scene, and a few people stand outside the pavilion, which has a tiled roof and a fence around it. The drawing is light, with soft shading and faint lines that make it look like a quick study. The artist left a simpler sketch of the same scene on the back of the paper. This kind of practice drawing helped them plan the final version. Look up Félix Ziem to see more of his dreamy landscapes.
Félix Ziem (26 February 1821 – 10 November 1911) was a French painter in the style of the Barbizon School, who also produced some Orientalist works.
