Henrietta Maria is a 1655 ink by William Faithorne, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This is a black-and-white portrait of a man with curly hair and a mustache. He’s wearing a high-collared shirt with lace at the neckline, and his hands rest on the front of it. The background is plain, and the whole image is framed inside a thick, decorative oval border. The artist used fine lines and shading to give the face texture, especially in the hair and collar. The signature at the bottom says it was sold by Nat. Brooke in London. Next, look up engraving to see how artists like this made prints.
William Faithorne (1616–1691) was a British artist, born in Greater London.
