This painting shows two small boats floating in calm, shallow water near a sandy shore. The larger boat is dark with a simple stripe down the side, while the smaller one is lighter and sits farther out. In the background, a rocky coastline and a few low buildings fade into a pale blue sky with soft clouds. The brushstrokes are loose and quick, almost like quick sketches. The water looks wet and the sand has streaks of color, as if the artist painted it fast while outside. Look up the Victoria and Albert Museum to see more works like this.
