H Beard Print Collection
From the collection of Victoria and Albert Museum
H Beard Print Collection is a work by J.W Gear, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This is a print portrait of a man dressed as Paul Pry. The name Paul Pry comes from a popular 1825 play about a nosy busybody. It’s hand-colored, so someone added paint by hand after printing. Printing let many copies spread. Hand coloring made each one a little different. The sitter, Mr. Liston, chose this pose and costume. Look up the Victoria and Albert Museum.
A full-length, hand-coloured portrait depicts Mr. Liston in the role of Paul Pry.
